BioAlps, Geneva, Switzerland Founded in 2003, the BioAlps Association is the Life Science clusterof Western Switzerland, supported by the Cantons of Bern, Fribourg, Vaud, Neuchâtel, Geneva, Valais, Jura and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs, with a mission of promoting and furthering excellence and performance in MedTech and BioTech developments in this cluster at all levels: regionally, nationally, and in the international arena. It is the entry point to a wealth of contacts, knowhow, knowledge and provides both personal and institutional support. Everything BioAlps does is geared towards innovation and nurturing creativity in research, education and business to enable novel products and services to reach the market efficiently and quickly. By means of the numerous events that the association organizes and sponsors, and the production of regular documentation as to current developments within the region, BioAlps is able to offer representatives from academic, industrial, financial and political backgrounds a variety of fruitful opportunities to connect with others linked to the life sciences. Two companies will be represented at the booth: Lyncee Tec and Phasis. |
EPFL, Lausanne, Switzerland ESCO (Engineering System Co.) from Japan is an expert in high-precision engineering for micro and nanotechnology. The desktop UV nanoimprinter and the desktop thermal nanoimprinter are flexible and affordable tools for nano-bio R&D. ESCO is represented in Europe by Hilpert Electronics (www.hilpert.ch). |
Labonfoil Project, Arrasate-Mondrangón, Spain The LABONFOIL project is a Large scale EU project funded under the FP7 program (contract number 224306). The project objective is to create and demonstrate an innovative capability and economy in point of care systems for the benefit of society through a rapid, ubiquitous and minimally invasive diagnostic devices for health and environment. This should be the seed of a new industry. |
Lab on a Chip, Cambridge, United Kingdom Lab on a Chip is the premiere, cutting-edge journal for micro and nanofluidic research and welcomes original work dealing with miniaturisation at the micro and nanoscale. The journal includes a wide variety of research across multiple disciplines including: chemistry, biology, physics, engineering (including MEMS and BIOMEMS) electronics, security, clinical and medical science, analytical science and materials. Full papers, Reviews, mini-Reviews and Communications are all welcome. |
MESA+, Twent, The Netherlands MESA+ Institute for Nanotechnology is one of the largest nanotechnology research institutes in the world and aims to deliver competitive and successful high-quality research. MESA+ is part of the University of Twente, and cooperates closely with various research groups within the University. The institute employs 500 people of whom 275 are PhD candidates or postdocs. With its NanoLab facilities, the institute has 1250 m2 of cleanroom space and state of the art research equipment. MESA+ has been the breeding ground for more than 40 high-tech start-ups to date. MESA+ has an integral turnover of 45 million euros per year of which more than 60% is acquired in competition from external sources (National Science Foundations, European Union, industry etc.). Medimate Medimate (www.medimate.com) is a spin-off company of the University of Twente. By using the Lab-on-a-Chip Technology Medimate developed a plug and play Multireader® and a Disposable Lab Chip. This easy to use Point of Care test offers unique solutions for (self)monitoring several concentrations in for example blood or urine within a few minutes using one droplet only! With the first Lab Chip we enable patients and professionals to measure Lithium in blood, resulting in a better treatment and Quality of Live for patients suffering from Manic Depressive Illness. A second Lab Chip, measure Sodium in Urine, for Kidney- and Hypertension patients, will follow soon. This technology offers outside the Healthcare Industry also opportunities for example for veterinarians. The Multireader® and a Disposable Lab Chip are protected by patents. |
